The AUTO-Bailout- Continued -- (some perspective)

  • The Economy has CHANGED...

Duh

The US Car industry will NEVER ever be the same.

Duh!?

  • Am I saying something that is in a foreign language?
  • Am I saying something in some un-comprehensive sentence structure that isn't understandable?
  • We need to preserve the manufacturing jobs and expertise of all of the associated trades involved in the creation and manufacture of automobiles in our country.
  • Our Country will NEVER ever again support the purchase of five to ten million new cars per year in our country.

Duh

Let me repeat that. (in bigger PRINT!)

Our Country will NEVER ever again support the purchase of five to ten million new cars per year in our country.

I re-peat... I re-peat...,I re-peat... We can never ever expect "Detroit" to become profitable on the old terms.

We MUST not allow the anti "BUY out/public money" backlash to prevent investing in
the CRITICAL asset of manufacturing in our country.

We need to invest ENOUGH money to STOP these companies from laying off EVERY one of their employees.

We need to invest ENOUGH money to get them to START to use their engineers to START building public (mass/heavy/light) rail transit projects.

We need to get the auto companies to accept a PRE-PACKAGED bankruptcy. THIS will allow all parties (dealers, workers, bankers) to EQUALLY share in the pain of the needed reductions.

GM has been estimated to have about 7,000 dealers in the US.

They need to reduce this to ONE GM dealership serving a (perhaps) 35 square mile area (who is able to sell all GM), and put 6,000 dealer networks Into new businesses.

Yes, this will also hurt the local populations, however this will eventually lead to new opportunities for the local networks (local rail installations, etc!)

Again, we MUST put money into these companies and NOT fire the workers but Push (SHOVE) them into the transportation business.

An Open letter (prelude to an op-ed!)

Dear Friends:

I'm writing this letter to you because I need help. No, not money, but a little bit of your time. For those of you who know me personally, you may remember when I started my second blog almost two years ago.

For those who don't know me, a brief history is in order. I realized over two years ago that our country was about to head into another "great" depression. I wondered what steps would Franklin Delano Roosevelt take if he were in charge, to lead us out of this huge morass. From this thinking I came up with the eleven points that are discussed in my blog (http://sos-newdeal.blogspot.com).

Some of these steps have already been taken, and some have been discussed by our next president as items he fervently believed in. I believe of my eleven proposals, 9 or 10 have either been covered or are in President Elect Obama's agenda.

My wife asked me the day after the election if I had any more predictions and the next day I realized I did. Before I share this with you, I want to talk about time frames. When I first realized that a huge financial crisis was coming, I didn't have a timeframe for it, and because of this, publicizing it wasn't critical. This is why I am asking for your help. The crisis we face, and my current proposal to deal with it is extremely time sensitive.

What I realized the day after the election was simply that the American auto industry is dead. Unfortunately, according to several different estimates, there are between one and three MILLION jobs (and some say as many as 10% of our entire economy) directly and indirectly related to the automobile industry in our country.

Can our country in its current economic conditions allow Detroit to die? No. But, and I believe this is my unique contribution and solution to this problem by assisting the Detroit car companies to survive.

In the big picture, the automobile industry in our country must die. Not because of the inefficiencies of the car companies, or because of poor management, or pushing inefficient models on us, but because it is not a green industry, and must change, or more accurately BE FORCED TO CHANGE, for it's own good.

This is my vision. Yes, the Government will save the big three automobile makers, but they will essentially stop making gas guzzling individual transportation machines, and instead become makers of mass transit, similar to the ones that used to exist in every single city and town in America until politics, intrigue, and perhaps collusion destroyed or purchased and closed them.

I am talking about light rail or trolleys/streetcars. The big three auto makers will become the new green mass transit for our new century.

How? Very simple. The new government loan program must indicate that the funds are to be used to retain workers, retrain and retool their manufacturing and assembly lines to make efficient mass transit.

So where do you come in? That's easy. I am asking you to help me publicize this, and demand that Detroit become responsible for some of the destruction they've created over the years by finally making good, and going after the new mass transit market.
How you ask? Very simple. One of the two proposals of mine that have not been discussed is a cross between an infrastructure project and a energy project, because it involves building NEW rail lines down the center (or side) of EVERY single major (interstate) highway in the country. These new lines will move tractor trailers (and cabs) from the beginning of the road, to the end (or whatever exit they are going to). A great deal of traffic and gas can be moved from the highways to these special freight lines, and would save a great deal of gas and time.

Your job? Please forward this message to anyone you feel might be of assistance, such as government leaders, mayors, governors, magazines, or newspapers (radio or TV), or even presidents.

Again, the reason I am asking for your help is that there is NO time to delay. Proposals to save Detroit will be coming in front of congress in the next several weeks. Unlike my original belief in the ability of "another" new deal to rescue the country, rescuing the car companies as they are today will help NO ONE.

Some other reasons to help save the industry.

1)The downstream jobs will also change, but they too will have a chance to survive and actually grow new "Green" jobs.
2)Making Detroit change its 'evil ways' will reduce our carbon emissions and give the country a viable way to make better mass transit available.
3)Just giving Detroit ca$h will do nothing except buy them more time.
4)The infrastructure required, including engineering, construction and manufacturing will help bring the entire country OUT of this recession, without cutting major sources of jobs.
5)This new infrastructure will help cities and states with the unemployed and those needing training.

Thanks again for your assistance.

PS: All I ask is that when you forward this message, you include all of it.

Proposal: Energy(updated 9-22 & 11/25/08)

This will discuss specific energy proposals I believe that will help re-invent our society.

Proposal E-1: Mileage

Car mileage "CAFE" standards will rise automatically every year by a minimum of five percent from the previous year's standards. Companies or groups disputing or challenging these regulations will pay:
  1. Legal fees (prepaid in advance) for both sides in advance of any challenges in the form of a secured bond(?).
  2. Companies not found in favor of will receive a penalty of double legal fees, (payable to the new government research fund), and a ten percent performance increase (for that year) over the previous year, in required mileage.
These two measures are designed to get faster, more enthusiastic participation and buy-in from the automobile manufacturers and their lobbyists, who have delayed twenty years of previous progress.

Proposal E-2: Energy Research
A new national research program (similar to the Manhattan project of World War II, which produced the Atomic Bomb), will be established and paid for by the federal government, to fund energy research, development AND manufacture of current and future energy technologies for transportation/home/commercial uses.

Proposal E-3: Institution
A new national institution that will support this research program, with ties and links to various existing educational institutions.

Proposal E-4: Lighting
All decorative lighting fixtures (christmas, christmas trees, halloween lights) must be energy efficient (LED) and all existing displays must be replaced within (public, commercial=five years; home/personal=ten years)
...edit 9-22-08 added: Existing stocks of (unsold) non LED lighting MUST be sold by Year end 2010, and may not be sold (or even given away/donated) starting 1/1/2011. Sale (or use) of non LED lighting items will be subject to surcharges payable to (??non-profit educational institution explaining energy use?) starting in 2011.

Proposal E-5: LEDs
The energy research program will work to develop a fast, feasible, cost effective method of manufacturing LED light bulbs that can be manufactured in the United States.

Proposal E-6: WasteOil
A fund to promote Waste Vegetable Oil will be established to help promote new local non-profit diesel engine conversion and filtering projects. To encourage WVO usage, no taxes will be levvied on WVO [either federal, state or local](except in case of adoption of a nationwide Value-Added Tax (VAT).
Funds will be used to help research and reduce costs of converting diesels to automatic operation with WVO, as well as helping start commercial filtering plants.

Proposal E-7: WVO/Diesel available.
A new infrastructure to support a thirty-fifty percent WVO to diesel fuel for ALL diesel cars will be implement. These local non-profits will also start to develop a presence at local truck-stops too.

Proposal E-8: MonopolyExclusions
Existing fast food, and national food chains will not be allowed to require their franchisees to use a specific pre-determined contractor for waste oil management.

(added 11/25/08)
Proposal Energy E-9: Detroit Subsidies
Substantial funding (bailout funding) will be given to Detroit to keep employees employed as they are re-tooled, and re-trained to become GREEN (and MASS transit) suppliers to the country. The one to three million downstream jobs Detroit supports cannot die, and Detroit must be retooled into a new industry.

Introduction -- Save Our Society (A new "NEW DEAL"

Please forgive me in advance.

I am just a visionary, with many many ideas that wants our society to improve, and not get worse.

This blog is a place to discuss and expand on points on how we can recover our society from the places it has fallen to.

I feel that some of the problems in the USA include (but aren't limited to)

*Corporate Greed
*Lack of National Health Insurance
*The "Dumbing" down of our Society (EDUCATION)
*The Welfare State Mentality
*The poor and Middle Class (Just WHAT IS middle class today?) being over-taxed.
*A lack of caring
*A lack of respect
*A lack of ethics.

Now.
What I propose:

  • Nationalized Single Payer Health Insurance for ALL, phased in over 20 years so the Insurance industry will buy into the plan, instead of stopping it.
  • A LIVING Wage, and eliminating or relabeling the "minimum wage"
  • A Mandatory three (four) year draft (Military or "USA-only" Service program)
  • Federally supported day care, starting at six months of age.
  • Six month (initially) guaranteed federally paid maternity/Paternity leave.
  • A National Works projects administration, envisioned as a training tool to teach skills, and closely linked with the service corps.
  • A new "Manhattan Plan" for the Research, Creation, Design, and production of alternative fuels and power sources for many different energy.
  • Establishment of various new "Service Academies" similar to Annapolis and West Point.
  • TAX Reform: Mandatory Taxes for the two-thirds of ALL USA corporations that PAID ZERO tax in 2006.
  • TAX Reform: Mandatory Taxes for the top 20,000 taxpayers in this country. (guessing that will be 20 million dollars or up in income...sorry charlie!)
  • Political Reform: Lobbyists run our country, let's run them OUT of the country for a change!
  • Political Reform: A (South Africa-like)"Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
    • Like South Africa, those coming forward to confess 'dirty tricks, on the take, etc, will be given Amnesty, but others will BE CHARGED.

More details WILL FOLLOW in other messages.

Each of these topics can be supported, and we can talk about this ONE topic at a time.
Thanks for coming, and happy reading!
