Proposal: Day Care and Maternity Leave

We have failed with the children of our country. (See also THIS post )
We have totally failed in the educational system.

One positive is that the "head start" program has been proven to work in
educating kids with less "help".

Because of this, we need to have the following two benefits in our country:

1) We need to have the Federal government institute UNIVERSAL day care for all children starting at six months old. The government will pay a LIVING wage for people learning and caring for our children. This will also raise THEIR living conditions.

2) We need the federal government institute a mandatory maternity/paternity employment leave of absence (also federally paid) that will allow our new parents time to bond with their newly born children, without fear of falling behind financially.

By having local, easily available, FREE day care for all, parents will be better able to provide for their children, and children will have the ability to get all of the advantages that head-start has shown is important for children of all ages.

These day care centers will NOT be centered on TV-babysitting, but on active interaction with the children, so that they can be nurtured, taught, and educated, so that they enter pre-school ready (if not already reading) , as well as ready for advanced math and language skills..
