Topic of Week: This week: Truth and Reconcilliation Commission

Well. It's the Republican Convention this week.

What better time to discuss a Truth or Reconciliation Commission? hereafter (TRC)

I propose political reform: that will be a different discussion, on a different week.

This week, we need to talk about serious forgiveness.

In South Africa I think the TRC worked very good.

A number of people from BOTH sides confessed in public (hearings), and were granted amnesty for their crimes.
A very small number of people did get prosecuted for NOT being truthful, and were prosecuted for their war crimes.

I am serious.

I feel that the level of corruption and dysfunction in our government and country is Way too much.

I feel that some guidelines are necessary:

1) Whistle-blowers are granted full immunity, and guaranteed income if fired from private industry.
2) Any crimes, scandals, etc reported during testimony will be investigated.
3) Politicians may confess, come clean, and escape prosecution. The downside is that they must retire with a (minus) ten year penalty on their federal retirement accounts.
4) Campaign finance related scandals will be investigated, and prosecuted if the principal does not come forward.
5) ALL participants must come forward and testify to their role to receive immunity. Names must be named for immunity to be received.
6) Corporations may be fined a minimum of two percent of sales, if convicted of crime.
7) As a throw-back to civility, the staff WILL contact all alleged participants, and give them the chance to testify before being publically 'outed'.

I am hoping that THIS TRC in conjunction with political campaign reform, will both help eliminate some of the problems in our way of life
